Strictly Beats: CMW - All for the Money (Instrumental)

Straight jacking.  Right in the Drive Thru.  CMW always picked the right soul samples for their first three albums and this one was always a stand out to me.  The jacked Tyrone Davis for his gators and the beat.  Smooth.

Strictly Beats: Mr. Brown - T.G.I....

These days beat makers come out of the woodwork like termites.  Some just digging harder than others and displaying some deft craft.  This cat Mr. Brown does have beats for days which finally don't sound like some 9th Wonder/J Dilla knock off.  Not like I ever thought 9th Wonder and his reused drums were ever all that great.  Anyhow peep and support.

Strictly Beats: Large Pro - Flushing Queens Day

Large Pro, Extra P, has beats for days and this is for one of those sunny days.  Just like "Brooklyn Queens" with the funky horns.  Gives me a good feeling.

Strictly Beats: DJ Premier - Rite Where U Stand (Instrumental)

Another DJ Premier track served up sizzling hot like a plate of fajitas.  I heard some of the demos they did on a U.K. EP they had released and some of those beats were pretty wack.  However, when it comes to official releases his track record is very high in comparison to other producers who have been around as long.

J.O.B. - Example (Instrumental)

Of how emcees get trampled.  The original track produced by J.O.B. for Universal Sounds in instrumental form.

Strictly Beats: A Tribe Called Quest - Vibes & Stuff (Instrumental)

The Tribe sampled Grant Green for this song.  Although, once again the meat of the songs is just a simple loop it is what gave the Tribe that jazz tinge from back in the 90's.  It's all about digging in them crates.

Strictly Beats: NO I.D. - State to State

I remember getting this on wax when it came out and this track always hit me head on.  Must be the Run DMC sample for the hook.  No I.D. delivered some incredible beats, in my opinion, for Common's "Resurrection" album, but never continued on.  Anyhow - this is one stand out during the aftermath.

Strictly Beats: Flying Lotus - Zodiac Shit

Hailing in from Adult Swim this video and song created by Flying Lotus is incredible.  He sampled another song I had stumbled onto only weeks earlier by Aphrodite's Child called "Aegian Sea".  Both songs are great.  The video by Flying Lotus pushes it to another level.

Strictly Beats: Alan Tew - Road Runner

The discography by Alan Tew is chock full of samples for the taking.  However, sometimes music is sooooo good it is hard to justify sampling it.  He came from the school of Library Music and may have even be a teacher.  The stuff he did well is that good.  For real.

Strictly Beats: Pete Rock for A.D.O.R. - Let it All Hang Out

Even though Pete Rock flipped the same sample for one of my favorite remixes of all time, "Shut 'Em Down" by Public Enemy, I still love what he did here for... A.D.O.R..  Okay, so he was pretty much "okay" on the mic he got blessed with some beats for his album and this was the cream of the crop on that album.

Strictly Beats: DJ Jazzy Jeff - Summertime (DJ Jazzy Jeff's Instrumental)

The anthem for the summer.  This will always spark nostalgia for me.  Many sampled "Summer Madness" by Kool and the Gang but I think Jeff did it best.  However, many more could sample that same song and I would still listen as I love the original and any take on it.

Strictly Beats: Souls of Mischief - '93 Til Infinity (instrumental)

I put this beat and Black Moon's beat for "Who Got The Props?" as two of my favorite mellow tracks from the early nineties.  Billy Cobham's smooth song "Heather" is filled to the brim with sample material and they chose to loop this?  Ha ha ha.  Hey, it works and works really well!

Strictly Beats: MF Doom - The Finest

MF Doom has always been a producer who just happens to find or use some simple samples but breathes new life into them.  Not with any tricks really except for some off drum programming.  Anyhow - this is one song that made me want to dig in the crates and find the sample.  This is his beat which basically samples the S.O.S. Band.

Strictly Beats: Beatnuts - Off The Books

The Beatnuts sample Electric Company music for this masterpiece.  Incredibly simple but completely effective.  Always have been a fan of their production.  Just as with Primo less is always more.

Strictly Beats: RZA for GZA - Investigative Reports

What beat isn't great on this solidly produced album?  This one in particular always grabbed me and made me want to bob my head.  Even though the radio news snippets don't really fit it still adds a complimentary vibe.  The news reporter is talking about the civil war in Park Slope, Brooklyn.  Anyhow - the beat is pure RZA fire.

Strictly Beats: Tom Caruna - Change The Beat

This beat maker from the U.K. is responsible for "Wu-Tang vs The Beatles".  I have bought a bunch of his albums and you should too.  He makes incredible beats and remixes.  Here is his take on "Change The Beat" by MF Doom.
