Ras Kass - Anything Goes (Money Mix)

"The Wire" and "Blood, Guts and Octane" were sampled to lay the backbone for this clever song by Ras Kass in regards to money and the state of affairs back in the 1990's.  Mysterio delivers a funky beat interlaced with cuts and sound effects to compliment Ras' signature vocals.

Sashimi

Mysterio sliced up some thin cuts of sashimi for this sonic plate he created.  Salt N Pepa are sprinkled throughout as well as other tasty tidbits to enhance the flavor of this track used either for the dance floor or a video game.

Strictly Beats: Pete Rock - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)

What can be said about this piece of sh...  I mean ha ha ha ha ha.  Really.  When I heard this joint my mind was boggled.  The different snare hits.  The horns.  The vocals.  Not until over a decade later I finally stumbled upon the Tom Scott sample but Peter really took it to another level.  Possibly my favorite hip hop beat of the 1990's.  Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth made a classic not just in hip hop but in music.

Jellyrolls (Fresh Batter Mix)

The drums were taken out to smooth out this fresh battered mix.

Jellyrolls

A mellow 1980's Paul Hardcastle recipe was used.  With a pinch of Todd Rundgren and a sample from an airplane flight being submerged into the delicate mixture a new level of musical tastiness was crafted by Mysterio.

Everytime (with Bruce Springsteen)

Just a little jam Mysterio came up with in which he sang on at first.  Then he decided to let a real singer step up so he inserted the first verse from Bruce Springsteen's song "Ain't Got You".  The rest is a mystery.

Just the drums, keys and strings.

Colton

A little bit of massage music mixed up by Mysterio.  The name derives from the birth of his nephew - when he began to lay down the basic sonic groundwork for the composition.

Onyx - Last Dayz (Departed Mix)

Mysterio stepped up to strip down one of his favorite songs by Onyx.  He decided to add a reggae tinged vibe but still serve up some deep bass and boom kicks.  Since the vocals were edited he added some sound effects of gun shots to fill up the dead space.  Jack Nicholson delivers his dialogue from "The Departed" to set the tone for the gritty rhymes spit by the bald head clique.

Strictly Beats: DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince -Live at Union Square

D.J. Jazzy Jeff just comes alive on the turntables like no other. This classic track from back in the day shows Will Smith's potential as an all around entertainer. They sure don't do hip hop shows like this anymore. Mostly emcees get on stage two hours late and walk around all stoned or grumpy performing over a DAT or better yet an IPOD MP3.

Ribbons

A Mysterio gem from the year of 1-9-9-9.  Very simple drums - possibly just a test kit - but some intense samples are served up over it creating a sinister, sonic soundscape.

Track 27

Here is another track from "Mysterio's Beats & Pieces" series from 2000. Short but sweet and could be looped up for a mellow type freestyle. Soulful bass loop is combined with some bright percussion on this track #27.

Strictly Beats: Prince Paul - Flattery

This track just gets me every time.  Makes me smile.  Just thinking about the dude with his head in his hands on the cover trying hard to pick up a girl at a bar.  Hilarious.  Prince Paul will forever and always be the conceptual king even when it comes to instrumentals.

Strictly Beats: DJ Premier - Gotta Get Over

Willie D may have beat Primo to sample this song by The Average White Band.  His song was called "My Alibi" and while I like it also this version by Gangstarr remains my favorite of the two.

Strictly Beats - The Dust Brothers (Beastie Boys) - Shake Your Rump

Hands down the album "Paul's Boutique" is one of my hip hop favorites.  Not many know but the Dust Brothers produced the whole damn thing.  Just like The Bomb Squad did at the same time in 1989 - they pulled tons of different samples and mixed them together flawlessly.  This one track in particular features over ten different songs.  Genius.

Strictly Beats: Madlib - Chitlins & Pepsi (Instrumental)

I wasn't a fan of the lyrics on the Strong Arm Steady album but the instrumentals are on point.  Madlib delivered some solid samples culled from his crazy crates.  Funky.

Nas - One Love (Digital Remix)

Mekhi Phifer and Harvey Keitel kick off this remix with their dialogue from the film "Clockers".  Mysterio laid down some very different digital sounds over a break beat and drum programming suited to fit Nas' classic verses.  Q-Tip still remains on the chorus with sound effects from a prison commissary rolling in the background as well as sounds of the street played during the verses reflecting the nature of the song.

Nas - One Love (Digital Remix)

Sky

In 1994 Mysterio must have been having a good mental outlook as this track has a very happy and inspired feel to it. With soulful singing, a deep bass, and wild high hats vibes come in and out - a perfect track for laying on some green grass and looking up at the sky.

Strictly Beats: KMD - Peachfuzz

This 12" record got enough play during the year of 1991.  So whenever I hear any of these songs off of the Mr. Hood album I am instantly taken back.
